A delegation from the Zenith University Law Students Association (ZUC-LSA) has paid a courtesy call on theChief Justice, Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo as part of the Association’s Law Week Celebration and also to congratulate her on her elevation to the High Office of Chief Justice of Ghana.
The President of the ZUC-LSA Ms. Sedina Matanawui said the visit was also meant to tap into the wisdom of the Learned Judge whose legal career on both the Bench and Bar spans 38 years.

She said Chief Justice Sackey Torkornoo is an inspiration to women, especially women who aspire for careers in the Legal Profession. Ms. Matanawui lauded her for her salient contribution to the development of Law locally and internationally.
A Zenith University College-Law Students Association (ZUC-LSA) Legal Personality of the Year 2024 award, was bestowed on the Chief Justice. The award came with a citation as follows;
You pursued your career with humility; diligence and excellence. Your gradual journey at the Bench coupled with your sacrifice and hard work has been rewarded with your elevation to the highest office of Chief Justice.

The Citation of Honour presented to the Honourable Lady Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo
The Chief Justice, thanked the executives and members of the Law faculty of the Zenith University for the honour. She urged the students to be diligent and competent in their chosen career and build upon their knowledge when in practice. She said, “Law is not fun, we are dealing with rights, life, property and personal liberty in Criminal Law. Shake off the notion that it is a glamorous pursuit, every procedure is different. If you don’t get it right, it will cost people their money, family, property, capital and personal liberty”.

She emphasized the importance of competence, deep focus, and diligence in the legal profession, cautioning against playing with people’s future. She shared her extensive experience of 18 years in practice and 20 years on the Bench, advising the students to listen, study, and research carefully before making judgments, as errors could impact people’s money and liberty. Justice Torkornoo described the legal profession as engaging and demanding, but ultimately rewarding, in terms of experience.
