On Thursday, October 2, 2025, the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, swore in 21 Justices of the Court of Appeal at the Jubilee House in Accra.
The President expressed delight in the number of women who made the cut. “I am quite proud of this batch of Appeal Court Justices, and the reason is that out of 20, we have nine women,” according to him.

He encouraged the justices to work hard, adding that citizens still maintained faith in the judiciary, notwithstanding their criticisms. Mr. Mahama further asked the judiciary to eliminate any harmful practices that could undermine this belief.
“What we must guard against is cynicism—the corrosive belief that courts no longer serve the people but only the powerful in society,” according to him.
President Mahama asked justices to rebuild faith in the Judiciary via both words and actions. He stressed that justice should not be compromised by status, riches, or political convenience.

The President said that his government intends to improve justice delivery by establishing special divisions of the High Court and the Court of Appeal to handle property disputes, commercial disputes, and labor disputes, which have the potential to drag on for years. He advised the freshly sworn-in justices to show courage, integrity, and humility in their job.

In his response, Justice Justin Kofi Dorgu, a representative of the newly sworn-in Justices of the Court of Appeal, expressed heartfelt thanks to the President of Ghana, the Acting Chief Justice, and the Judicial Council for the honour bestowed upon them.
On behalf of his colleagues, he swore that they would work diligently and fairly;
“We pledge to discharge our duty with integrity, diligence and fairness…” “We assure the people of Ghana, that we shall uphold independence of the Judiciary and work tirelessly to strengthen public confidence in the administration of justice”
